Certain wines, like certain music, remind you of times and people. This is one of those. A friend I don't get to see much anymore gave me this bottle a few years ago, and even had this been a lousy bottle, drinking it would have made me happy. However, this was anything but a lousy bottle. At or near its peak, enough fruit remaining to balance the considerable tannins. Leathery and smoky.
