This is actually Gros Verdot plantedin CA nearly 100 years ago. The grape comes from the Gironde, same vicinity as Tannat. It reminded me a bit of Tannat.

Tasted well and purchased at winery. Had some travel sickness so it lost a lot of fruit as a result. The acidity was still there. But what little roundness there was is largely lost.

A gentle ruby color more like a Pinot. Nose of dark cherry, black pepper with hints of cherry liqueur and very slight hint of forest floor or cedar. Palate is dominated by dark cherry, black pepper, spice and substantial tannin and a still present cedar note. A dynamite BBQ wine.
