Here’s a beautiful Coteaux Champenois rouge by Grower Producer Champagne J. Lassalle, located in the village of Chigny Les Roses in the Montagne de Reims region!
When founder Jules Lassalle passed away in the 1980s, his wife Olga and daughter Chantal took over the family business, which continues to be run today by Chantal joined now by her daughter, Angéline.
As for this wine, it’s the 2018 Chigny Les Roses Coteaux Champenois Rouge made with 100% Pinot Noir grown on vines over 50 years old! It fermented and aged (9 mos) in stainless steel, preserving a fresh and vibrant profile.
It’s pale ruby in color. On the nose are juicy fruit notes of red and black cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, redcurrant, boysenberry, and kirsch, next to hibiscus, pink rose, wet stones, black licorice, fennel, and anise seed.
On the palate is a dry, bright, and lively expression, fueled by mouth-watering acidity, with a medium body, medium alcohol (12% ABV), and fine, well-integrated tannins. It’s lovely!
Cheers to Champagne’s many delicious dimensions!
