Sadly this was, as it often is, a very under performing wine. Henri Maire was a penny-pincher who held down the reputation of Chateau-Chalon for a long time. This was drunk alongside the 1979, which was also disappointing. As this negociant bottled as much as half the production from the appellation at one time, the bottles still crop up at auction from time to time. My advice would be not to bid.
The '59 was over the hill (dead as disco), while the '79 was one dimensional and short. A great shame:-(

Trademark Vin Jaune layered scent with foremost pistachios, walnuts, yellow apples showing in the foreground of a smoky minerality. Good flavor intensity and a serious length with a good stamina makes this example qualify as a good wine. However, for a chateau Chalon I am expecting more. 9,1

Très belle maturité. Le nez noisette fort, un peu douce légèrement.
Acidité est assez intolérable.
