See 3 previous Delectable notes. This was my last bottle of the best new world Vermentino I’ve had. Green apple, medium acid. Grand Champion of the Toowoomba Wine Show in 2021 when I was a Judge. Quite delicious - more full bodied than any Italian Vermentino I’ve had. The palate is quite unctuous with mandarin and quince. Even though the winery is in Queensland on the Granite Belt, the fruit comes from the Mildura (NW Victoria) warm region.

Very pale lemon in colour. Aromas of Lemon, Lime and sea spray. This wine won Grand Champion at the Toowoomba Wine Show last year. See previous notes from about a year ago. Many would pick this as Chardonnay in a blind tasting. Has a faint barrel ferment character adding a creamy texture to the palate. Like most Italian varietals this wine improved with food - in this case fresh Mooloolaba prawns and salad - the perfect match. A triumph for Italian varietals in Australia. Tasted another bottle 86 weeks later on 26th June 2023 with similar notes. Pale pale lemon in colour. Notes on nose and palate of Granny Smith apple. Innovative wine making on show here.

This won the Trophy for the best White Wine at the Toowoomba Wine Show last weekend and went on to win Champion Wine of the Show. Colour is very pale lemon. Notes of green Apple - skins and flesh, also Lime. The palate has quince and mandarin notes - quite unctuous and fleshy on the palate - low acid and medium plus intensity. Even though the winery is in the Granite Belt/Ballandean the fruit is from Chalmers Vineyard in Mildura in Victoria. The 2020 vintage in Ballandean was probably the most challenging on record with droughts, fires and record low yields. As a result, no Vermentino was harvested at Golden Grove Estate.

Pale lemon. Citrus notes with added complexity from the influence of partial new French Oak. Refreshing with good intensity and acidity. Stanthorpe/Ballandean seems to be excellent for Mediterranean varieties like Vermentino Fiano and Tempranillo to name a few.
