Apr 29th, 2016Today I'm tasting a Barbera D'Alba from Piedmont. Dark ruby with a watery appearance in the glass, very light nose with notes of flowery pungent ammonia, and cherry, slight grapefruit, blackberries and tin. Medium bodied on the palate with black cherry, black licorice, leather, ash, and a sharp astringent pepper. The finish is long and lasting, with an acidity that is pleasant. I do like this wine, but it needs to pair with Marinara Sauce or a mild cheese (Brie de Paris) to act as a base to this acidity. A very nice Italian red, not a Barolo, but nice.
