Fautor, 310 altitudine, cabernet Sauvignon feteasca neagrä, 2018
First solid Moldovan wine which was given to me as a present by a Moldovan colleague (I gave her a Fronton, folle noire d'ambat from Domaine le roc in exchange 😏). I tasted feteasca neagrä already a couple of times in Romanian wines, blended with other more traditional grapes, and this was quite good. This one is indeed not bad, it's a bold and rich style that's rather new world than old world to me. Cassis, black currant, leather, vanilla, a tiny touch of green pepper bell, a menthol thing too. This is not bad a nose! The palate is fluid and easy going. Yesterday the wine showed less tannins and a bit more of a round and almost sweet mouthfeel, one day after tannins kick in in the rear, bringing a great texture for a very long cassis finish that last for ever. Moldova is to my knowledge the only country in the world to have a national wine holiday which is Bank holiday. This is, in itself, a very good reason to look some more into their wine, don't you think?
