Etude
Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
A knockout wine. The nose shows florals, tree bark, and dark fruit. The palate is all about balance. Unmistakably California with ripe fruit intertwined with anise and earth, layered beneath the firm structure. The finish is lush and long with a bit of dark chocolate. I usually stick to my regulars, the Napa stalwarts, but this was a nice detour.

Dec 1st, 2018Yaassss! Full bodied, oak and just the right amount of earth, leather and spice. Everything you want in a Cab and nothing you don’t.

Jul 15th, 2018This has developed nicely. Strength and power have matured to elegance and grace. Not surprised to see a hint of brick in the color after 10 years. An hour or so in the decanter opens things up. The nose is a bit muted; briar berry, earth, and sliced green pepper are there. The flavors are layered; charcoal, camphor, dusty earth, crushed black currants, blueberry. Welcome to Rutherford. The body has lost all its weight causing a relatively short finish with a bit of cardamom and star anise peeking through.
