Eden Canyon
Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
This particular bottle is labeled as “Black Ruby,” although I’m not sure what that means exactly. An amazing Cab, though, with just 100 cases produced and an almost imperceptible 13% alcohol - a true rarity for Paso Robles, whose warm climate often pushes ABV up to port-like levels. The nose is pure Eden Canyon, displaying that funky VA that I love - although @Eric Godin tends to find off-putting. Hey, to each their own! Rich and silky black earth wrap around a core of black currant, blackberry and a hint of raisin. A range of secondary notes from dry herbs, rhubarb, dark chocolate and some baking spices also come forward. Even for an ‘11 this wine shows a lot of power. EC adds no additional sulfates to their wines, but that wouldn’t stop this one for comfortably aging another 10 years.
