I'm a bit at odds with this Syrah. First of all, EC is one of Paso's finest producers, IMO. Their Cab is one of my absolute favorite wines...and therein lies the rub. This Syrah reminds me exactly of their Cab. Granted, they are both seeing extensive time in new French oak (30 mos. for each), so I have to believe that is the culprit. The nose delivers woodsy aromas of black fruits up front, with blue and red fruits coming in behind. Plenty of sweet oak, rich black earth and a bit of black licorice. I would say that the palette diverts a touch from the Cab, as there's a touch more acidity, while delivering a slightly lighter drinking experience, tinged with a touch of tartness. You've got your black and blue fruits, definitely on the shriveled side, followed by a kiss of earth. The acidity keeps the length fairly short on this one. All in all, for a Syrah it makes for a pretty decent Cab.

Bitter blackberry & lemon. 🍋A bit too dominate up front for my taste; better after oxidizing a bit.
