Here’s a gulpably delicious sparkler hailing from the far-reaching elevations of Tupungato in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina.

This sparkling wine was produced by Domaine Nico, an estate founded by Dr. Laura Catena, specializing in high quality, Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. These bubbles represent a new, pleasurable dimension to Domaine Nico’s current portfolio of Pinot Noir wines. We brought it home from our visit to Buenos Aires last month.

I loved learning how this wine was first conceived; where else but over a delicious meal enjoyed under the warmth of the autumn sun, amidst estate vineyards, through a playful conversation between winemaker Roy Urvieta and Laura Catena.

In that moment, they decided to produce a sparkling wine with which to clink glasses in celebration of future harvests.

This sparkling wine is made from Chardonnay (65%) and Pinot Noir (35%), all grown in Tupungato the northernmost subregion of the Valle de Uco, Mendoza.

It’s a pale pink-orange hue with a lively, foamy mousse; it’s dry with fresh and vibrant notes of lemon peel, green apple, yellow pear, ripe raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and white blossom. The focus is on primary aromas and flavors, made in a manner designed to promote a purity of fruit expression.

It has an ethereal lightness, punctuated by juicy berry and orchard fruit aromas and flavors. It’s delicious, approachable, and exceedingly easy to drink.

Cheers to wine that embodies the sunshine! 🥂🥂
