Found out this is the original birthplace of Malbec, a territory fought over many times between the British and French empires. Once the Bordeaux region increased in popularity the Cahors region became less significant. The wine has red cherry and craisin notes, but predominately is herbaceous, earthy, mildly smoky, and tart. It finishes off with an accentuated acidity. It definitely opened and softened up over an hour of decanting. In the beginning it was somewhat boring but after a while became a much more interesting wine.
