This 9-year old Rasteau from Helen Durand's winery is showing a bit of age already. The nose starts with an oxidized note of cooked prune jam and bruised raspberries, there is some leather, some curry and a bit of black olive in the back. Bummer, cause I can very well envision what a younger nose of this wine would have been.. the palate is showing a good acid drive but there are some vinegary, acid notes all along. A bit of fruit shows too, blackberry mostly, and the finish is rather long and coating but it leaves that acrid, vinegary slight touch all along, telling me that the wine has either oxidized or the bottle was poorly stored and heat-damaged. I'm feeling so sorry because I love this producer and had (mostly) only great experiences in the past.

I was so psyched that I could find this wine here in Poland and the disappointment is as big as the excitement to find it was. It's cooked and oxydized to a fault. The cork is a plastic one, one of those that you have to pull like usual ones, with softer plastic in the middle, yet the wine is damaged. I believe this is poor storage conditions and probably this was exposed to some heat. I will have a word with the wine store as this is the 2nd faulty bottle out of the 6 I bought last time (the previous one was the Georgian wine which was completely corked). 😨

Classic GSM. Full fruit up front. Pepper,plum, herbs. Super smooth finish. Last one from good old Kensington Wine Market. Drank with Big Fred, another KWM fan who now lives here. We loved it!
