Conte di Bregonzo
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Wow, Fortuna was with me today when I picked up this amazing Amarone. I wanted a wine to pair with the chicken marsala I was making for dinner and at $16, it was a bargain I couldn't pass up! It is still very young so it is a fruit forward wine. Almost like a mox between port, dry sherry, and primativo. The raisins used to make this produced a wine with aromas of ripe black cherry, stewed plums, clove and cinnamon. The pairing was superb but it has the structure to stand up to game roasts or osso bucco. I may buy a few more bottles to open in 5-8 years. At this price, I can't lose! Need to run to TJ'S to stock up.
Edit: this wine really came together after being open for two hours - tannins. Alcohol, and body are well integrated and balanced.

Deep candied cherries! Very dry and smooth. Peppery finish!

Nov 14th, 2017Decent amarone for the price, not the best I've ever had but far better that many more expensive examples. The color is dark red almost black. Nice acidity, tannin, and dark berry fruit. Not overly sweet. I would not decant, seems to loose the fruit flavor the more it opens up.

Dec 25th, 2016Not much nose, but delicious. We had the 2013 and it was worth every penny. Full bodied, rich flavor, smooth and delightful. Touch of black cherry, went well with steak.
