Explorer's Series Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a delicious Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. This 6 years old from the great 2014 vintage is elegant, spicy and tangy.
Showing black and red fruits with wood, earth, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, dark chocolates and spices.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
The nose reminded of an aged left bank Bordeaux.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.

Man. This, was one of the boldest Cabs I have ever had, but that was most likely do to it's young age. Made by Marco Digiulio, who also makes Raymond and Lakoya; this is an "explorer series" focusing on single AVA Cabernet Sauvignon. BIG and intense nose, with notes of fresh cracked peppercorn, charred oak, and mocha, all thrust forward by a rush of ethonol. The pallet was very dense, and still fairly tight, with high alcohol, fine grain (might I say dusty) gripping tannin, and exhibiting notes of ripe blackberries, Mediterranean herbs & spices, burnt espresso bean, vanilla/caramel, gravel dust, and an everlasting finish. I feel I needed to decant this one much longer than an hour..but overall I give this a 92 because I believe in 2-5 years, this wine will drink much more in its prime, and will be an impressive message in a bottle.
