Les Millésimes Calvados Pays d'Auge

I was told that unlike old vintage Armagnac, which can be removed from barrel and aged in demijohns after 30 years, old Calvados must be aged in barrel for the entire time. So this 1962 was bottled in 2017, as the alcohol was ok the cusp of dropping below 40°, due to angels share and would not be allowed to be labeled as Calvados of less than 40.
Deep amber color. Very complex nose which is layered and complex. Warming and yet gentle on the palate. This is a spirit to guide you along to warm sunny pastures with scents of sweet hay, apple blossom and resinous aromatic wood.

Nose is less about wood and more about an ethereal, subtle appley perfume. Texture is more polished and fine.

Distinctly old school nose. Described by the brewery/distillery rep as "chateau floors" as in polished with wax and honey.
Deep earthy, bass notes of the soil seem to echo in this now 40 year old Calvados.

This finished in Cognac barrels. It offers a much drier expression focused on wood characteristics. Savory and firm this would be good with some pate or foie.

This finished it's sojourn in Muscat de Rivisaults barrels. Is shows a distinct echo of golden/tropical fruits in both the in mouth and retronasal aromas, especially pineapple.
