Chester's Anvil
Mount Veeder Malbec
Dark ruby with more red undertones. On the nose, tons of blackberries, earthy damp moss, violets, and spice. Wonderful aromas but that’s where everything interesting ends. There’s a bit of leather on the palate, along with more and more blackberry, tart cherries, black tea, and some really nice floral notes. This is an expertly crafted wine. There’s just nothing interesting going on here. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t drink it

Feb 10th, 2018No rush to drink. Tannins are quite evident but they don't overpower the fruit. I'd wait a couple years before revisiting a bottle. A lovely food wine which I paired with smoked BBQ pork shoulder tacos and cumin black beans.

Aug 13th, 2017Uncorked for 1 hour, sweet nose, dark red fruits, a lot going on in this wine. Finish is lengthy, definitely a good wine to enjoy with grilled, fatty meat with assertive flavor. Well integrated tannins and a lot of life left. I need to follow this over a couple days to see what secondary flavors show up...
Vacuvin overnight in fridge
Day 2: poured after reaching temp of 60F and enjoyed with dinner. Secondary notes are more noticeable and fruit is balanced. Leather, spice, and oak. Food friendly (paired with peppered bacon, lettuce, garden tomato, avocado sandwich - BLAT). Plum on night 2 vs. Black cherry on initial open.

Dark bold but smooth with great mouth feel. Smells of black berries with leather. Tannins are there but just right. Pleasure to drink now but am interested in trying after laying down for a few years
