It's #MerlotThursday! Here's a nice one from Bordeaux.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Nice nose of black currants, cooked plums, cherries, oak, light vanilla, herbs, vegetables, earth, spices, black pepper, light vinaigrette and wet leaves.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, raspberries, cherries, wood, light vanilla, earth, tobacco, vegetables, earth, wet leaves, herbs, black pepper, spices, dark coffee and pencil lead.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very nice 8 year old Merlot from France, showing a very enjoyable nose, that I loved smelling on. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

Needs 2 hours to open up properly and show itself. Would age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

Wine Enthusiasts 87 Points. A blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$30.

Intense, dark red fruits, with generous baking spices. Saddle leather and vanilla bean on the nose. Good drive with fine structure.

2012. Spicy. Still some tannins. Strong structure. Big, toothsome Bordeaux

It's ok. Not my favorite. Best to drink alone or with something buttery.
