Funky and slightly off scent right off the bat. A heavier, hotter profile than its 14% abv suggests. Tastes more cab forward than 40%. Slightly more new world fruit and oak flavor (though not sweet, per se). A touch of new leather and licorice. Thin-ish finish. Not too subtle but has nice cassis and tobacco notes mid-palate. Smells and tastes a bit like a dank cave...in a good way.
