From Castillon. Bought this after reading some nice words on the property by Panos K, and I’m impressed. I had reservations about the apparently modern bent to the wines, but I didn’t find this too heavy-handed or sweet, for my taste anyway. Firm, well-structured and focused, with savory notes of licorice, cracked pepper and mocha that open up with time to reveal a nice dark berry core. Great with meat and cheese. Decent value as well. Drinks well with air, but this has the backbone to age a bit.

Solid, well-balanced, but either I have a cold or it's a bit muted in bouquet and taste. Finding it easy drinking but unremarkable.

Impulse Costco buy... took a few minutes to open. Enjoyable nose... think black forest berries meet ‘snap into a slim-jim.’ Grape jelly, peppercorns, and bark notes are there too. Ripe on the palate, speaking to the warm vintage with dark fruits and cedar. Crunchy tannins lead to a chalky finish. Drink or hold for up to 5 years. Solid QPR.

Exhibits energetic and vibrant character, along a foundation of sour black cherry and warm blackberry flavors, evolving into ravishing dark chocolate and cedar notes. Light bell pepper nuances are never too far away. Chewy and firm tannins make the finish addictive. 75% Merlot and 25% Cab Franc. This wine has a gusto about it...
