Château de Hauterive
Chemin de Compostelle Cahors Malbec Blend
Blackberry, tart dark cherry, subtle black pepper, a licorice-y, star anise note, a bit of chalky soil, medium tannin. Very rewarding wine, great value. I've only had Argentinian malbecs up to this point, so it's interesting to experience the grape as grown in its country of origin. Based on this wine, the tannins seem a bit more robust, as opposed to taking more of a backseat in many Argentinian malbecs.

Sep 22nd, 2018Chameleon wine, Just after opening green, acidic and misbalanced, I know it's young and not very expensive. Interesting to drink Cahors French Malbec (I think our first) 🍇 (85% Malbec, 15% Merlot). Medium (-) bodied, ruby light color, skyrocketing acidic with higher tarty tannins. I feel mainly red fruits like sour cherry and unripe plum.
Changes appear after wine warmed up a bit, become more fruity and got some balance on palate - now I can say I actually enjoy it, so small upgrade.
Maybe it needs to sleep in a bottle for a few years to mellow down.
