Cecilia Beretta
Amarone della Valpolicella Corvina Blend
Trader Joe's, $20
Dark strong ruby color. Mellow ripe fruit with a slightly sweet licorice-like spice on the nose, very little astringency. Fairly typical appassimento type flavor, rich dried/jammy fruit, starts sweet then finishes with a bit of dry tannins. Has a slight savory sweetness beyond the fruit akin to vanilla or licorice. Quite enjoyable, worth the couple dollars over my usual budget.

Cooked red berries/strawberry/cherry/fig, vanilla sweet wood, green peppercorn, and hints of chocolate, cinnamon, and clay; balanced tannins and acidity; deeper flavors than expected, thank you appasimento method! $20 at TJoes.

Nov 4th, 2020Not as robust or as complex as I expected, but not terrible for the price. Purple fruit on the nose. Juicy on the palate, with notes of plum, tangy cranberry, & red currant. Medium bodied. Medium-plus acidity. Not overly tannic, but enough to remind you that it’s Old World. Subtle dark cocoa finish.
