Watery brick garnet. Musty toolshed, sun-dried strawberries and tomatoes, hints of oregano, coconut, vanilla, kiwi. No sugar on the palate, medium acid, clear brusque dryness across the tongue. Exactly what it should be: the Tempranillo is a simple bright Mediterranean grape, but a year in oak and half a decade in a bottle give it a halo of chocolatey goodness that flirts around the aftertaste. And the aroma of a living history saddlemaker's shop. The $10 price tag and scotch-level length of aftertaste bump this to an 8.8 for me--it's kind of ridiculous that this is so savorable!
