Bodegas Campo Viejo
Rioja Tempranillo Blend
Great color and vitality on the nose and palate. My only comment is that the tannins are a bit drying in this particular bottle.

Feb 28th, 2015Okay, its time to give Wine Spectator an evaluation on their wine rating ability according to my palate. This is rated at 90 by them. It is a Spanish wine called Campo Viejo Reserva 2010 Rioja blend of Tempranillo 85%|Graciano 10%| Mazuelo 5%. The bottle has a serial number and is signed by the wine maker himself. And did I mention it is cheap - $12.00!!!!! I am going to say right off the front, you have to try this if you have a similar palate to mine. Im trying rate this wine but I keep having another glass!!!!!! Okay, the color is darker than a pinot noir and lighter than a cabernet. The bouquet is passion fruit and flamboyant roses! The initial palate delivers a slightly tangy cherry tart beginning followed with a pepper and oak finish that lingers to a dry finish. The tannins are soft as described on the bottle. It is very similar to a big pinot noir with a kick into the cabernet level. Its also only 13.5%!!!!! I am buying a case of this tomorrow! This is the best Spanish wine I have ever had! WOW. Wine Spectator, I think you under rated this one! Im giving it a 9.8 meaning when I see it, I drink it. Cheers!
