Bodegas Balbas
Ritus Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León, Spain

Blend of about 75% Tempranillo and 25% Merlot, deep Ruby color with aromas of red and black fruits, spice and toasty notes, aged for 18 months in French oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry and ripe cherry, cinnamon, cacao and toasty oak notes. Balanced acidity, fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, toasty vanilla oak and earthy mineral character.

Pleasant surprise and a very good recommendation by the Sommelier at a reasonable QPR. Excellent silky texture, deep cherry fruit, and subtle hints of vanilla and oak; maybe even a little coconut. Medium plus finish.

My journey of Spanish wines continues.!
Despite the length of maturation, fresh red and black fruit, such as plums, cherries and berries punch your nose at first sniff. Then aroma of vanilla, chocolate and nutmeg flirts you with a subtle hint of meatiness.
The mouthfeel is both intense and smooth. Like the aroma, a cluster of red and black fruit explodes in your mouth, followed by luscious vanilla and chocolate. It's weighty but the finish is pleasantly smooth.
Don't get overwhelmed by its high acidity, though. Yes, it's very acidic, but it complements so well salty and fatty dishes.
This wine displays such unique characteristics of terroir. Plus, it's a beautiful food-friendly wine. Highly recommended.
