A sock on the jaw, an exceptional Spanish gem the likes of which I’d never tasted. 3+ hr decant, and this 20 yr old filled my nose with rich, broad waves of cassis and black fruit. Powerful and incredibly precise, it had an almost just-bottled freshness and alternating pistons of dark black fruit and fresh oaky tannins. Excellent, could go for years.

2001 Contador Rioja. Lunch at Reddwood. Decanted for a little while S we drank the 1998 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz. This wine was definitely much funkier on the nose- gamey and earthy. A preferred this wine but the rest of us preferred the Henschke. Delicious but just didn't beat the Henschke for us today.

May 29th, 20162001 Benjamin Romeo Contador Rioja. Drank w Doug and Mona at Baco. K really liked this wine. Had an interesting, complex nose of chocolate, coffee, and game. Interesting and great with the food.
