Rated this a 93 four years ago, and at that time I would say that was a very solid and correct rating. Four years later, this one has started to lose a little bit of ground. Not quite as verbose and youthful, starting to show a lot of tart but still quite juicy fruit, tart underripe raspberry and plum, raisin oatmeal cookie. Finishes dirty...earth / soil. Still seems like this is tannic, but perhaps it's just the tannin dropping out! I think this 11 won't hold nearly as long as the 08, but at rhis time this one drinks the best vs the 04 and 08.

A piece of Texas tempranillo history. Made by the king of Texas Tempranillo, Jim Johnson. I have another bottle of this and really glad for that as this wine is NOT on the decline. This wine is intriguing. A combo of sweet amd overripe. Still a mind-blowing sweetness at the front. Sweet figs. Tart cherry. Herbs in the middle. Quite rounded. No jagged edges. Rounded tannic finish, rather stiff oak. For a Texas wine that is 11 years old, this one is showing incredibly well.

Inaugural vintage of El Guapo. Cuttings from Sonoma Tempranillo hauled back to Bend TX almost 20 years ago. Lots of shrapnel when this was opened...Thin, violet pour. Quite different from the 08 tasted last night. Fruit was boiled, stank!! This one is done.....
