A unique pick up from the local Total Wine, these grapes were grown and bottled on Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound AVA. The Whidbey Island winery has been around a while, (opened in 1992), and now produces ~4000 cases of wine - mostly grape varietals grown in the Loire, Alsace, German, and Eastern European climates. Siegerrebe, or "victory wine", is a German varietal that is a cross between Madeleine Angevine and Gewürztraminer. Losing ground to more well known dry white wines, (i.e. Riesling), the grape is typically grown in small amounts in Germany and Belgium to use as a blending agent. It has a home here in the PNW though, as its climate preferences make it ideal for the region. The nose is typically that of a Muscat with a familiar Gewürztraminer flavor profile. Pair with spicy foods and you will not be disappointed! ~$17 | #siegerrebe#whidbeyisland#pugetsound
On the eyes: Clear, starbright, pale yellow - kinda like cream soda, no stain, light legs, gas present, no floc.
On the nose: Very heady aromatics, spicy passion fruit, melon, floral with wet clean slate. Med- alcohol.
On the tongue: Med acid, med- alcohol, med- tannin, slightly effervescent and off dry. Round, light body. Passion fruit and pear, a bit peppery, with a medicinal aftertaste. — 8 years ago
This was another winery I thought of that we should visit if we have more time. They had some interesting wines and grew some of the grapes (like the above) on property which is unusual for western WA.
