Enjoy an excerpt from this article and notes for this week's top ten below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “There is a quiet revolution underway in beautiful, tranquil Chablis as more young winemakers enter the region and growers aspire to greater heights. The 2019 and 2020 vintages have much to offer, not least for those priced out of the Côte d'Or and wondering where to get their white Burgundy fix.” --Neal Martin, Life on the Margin: Chablis 2019/2020, October 2021 1. 2019 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru 2. 2019 Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru 3. 2019 Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 4. 2019 Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils Chablis Valmur Grand Cru 5. 2019 Domaine Eleni & Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot 6. 2019 Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Blanchots Grand Cru 7. 2019 Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru 8. 2019 Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Vaudevey 1er Cru 9. 2019 Domaine Laroche Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 10. 2019 Isabelle & Denis Pommier Chablis Côte de Léchet 1er Cru

Denis (Isabelle et Denis) Pommier

Côte de Léchet Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Chablis Côte de Léchet 1er Cru is very sultry and backward on the nose, featuring traces of white flower and citrus peel, and it gains energy and tension in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry that dovetails into quite a concentrated, "fat" midpalate, where it just loses some of the tension that I was anticipating. But it displays good matière and grip, and this is still a decent Côte de Léchet that should benefit from a couple of years in bottle. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Domaine Eleni et Edouard Vocoret

Le Bas de Chapelot Chablis Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Chablis Le Bas de Chapolot seems to have more horsepower on the nose compared to the 2020. This really sings with orange blossom, white peach and touches of linseed. The palate is beautiful – well defined, quite showy and forward, with fine weight and tempting peach, elderflower and light mango notes. Long but not necessarily minerally on the finish. Lovely. Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils

Vaillon Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru has a gorgeous, intense bouquet of orange blossom, lemon verbena and light flinty scents, all beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced: quite extravagant for a Vaillon, yet tensile and edgy. It fans out wonderfully on the finish. Excellent. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Domaine Laroche

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a lovely yellow plum and jasmine nose, hints of saffron emerging with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, with dried peaches, green olive and a pinch of spice, maybe just missing a little persistence but very well defined. Excellent. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Chablis Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a crisp nose of Granny Smith apples, freshly sliced Nashi pear, wild fennel, green olives and touches of crushed limestone. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry, demonstrating admirable weight. A little viscosity toward the finish betrays the warmth of the summer, yet the acidity keeps it fresh and tensile. Delicious. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils

Valmur Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2019 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru was the standout from vat last year. Now in bottle, it displays brilliant delineation on a nose of yellow plum, wet limestone and light floral scents. The fresh, vibrant palate sparkles with energy and offers veins of tropical fruit that never impede upon the terroir expression. Impressive depth and length. Outstanding. Domaine Billaud-Simon

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose, offering crushed stone and subtle earthy scents; a faint touch of white flowers emerges with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and linear. A reserved, lightly spiced Chablis with a brisk, quite saline finish. It just needs a little more in the way of persistence. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Domaine Laroche

Les Vaudevey Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2019 Chablis Les Vaudevey 1er Cru has a pretty nose of tinned white peaches mixed with vanilla pod, showing fine delineation and focus, though not complex. The citrus-fresh palate is vibrant with good acidity, showing subtle peach and pear notes toward the minerally finish. This has a bit of a skip in its step. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2021)

Domaine Laroche

Les Blanchots Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Chablis Les Blanchots Grand Cru is very well defined on the nose, where sea spray and oyster shell notes combine with citrus aromas. Hints of green olive emerge with time. The well-defined palate is taut on the entry, with hints of chai tea and chamomile infusing the white peach and citrus notes, and builds nicely toward a very composed finish. Superb. Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a clean, precise, more floral bouquet than the Valmur; white flower petal scents infuse the citrus fruit, along with a hint of egg whites. The palate is well balanced, taut and linear, with great poise and nervosité, leading to an intense and very persistent finish. This will vie with the Valmur as best Grand Cru.
