SommCon: Defining Local in the Mid-Atlantic

Local cuisine is growing in popularity and well-travelled guests look for local options on wine lists where it makes sense. How do you navigate local options? What guidelines can you use to choose wines that will complement your menu and offer fresh choices for your guests? Several young-guns are doing ground-breaking work in developing Mid-Atlantic vineyards where innovative wine varieties are being grown. This session will highlight some of those new faces of the Mid-Atlantic region and their efforts to scout out new vineyards, and to plant grapes that will yield successful wines. Winemakers considered for this panel include: Jake Busching, vineyard manager of Virginia Wineworks, Lisa Hinton of Old Westminster in Maryland, Josh Grainer of RdV Vineyards in Virginia, and perhaps Emily Pelton of Veritas Vineyards of Virginia. You can find the wines being poured at the seminar listed below. Press on any wine to add your own rating, or scan any label to pull up the bottle. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #SommCon in all of your Delectable tasting notes to enter to win Vinous and Delectable prizes!
