The 2004 Léoville-Poyferré has a light and airy bouquet with blackberry, antique bureau, forest floor and light fungal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, a little austere but balanced, though I notice some attenuation and bitterness towards the finish. So-so for this estate. Tasted at the Léoville-Poyferré vertical at the château with Sara Lecompte Cuvelier. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

Today is Chinese lunar new year in LA! Gotta pop a nice one. Dark inky purple color, not showing a bit of aging at all. Fine leather, mushrooms, forest floor, smoked bacon, graphite, herb, not much fruit character on the nose but mostly are black fruits, also mixed with some sweet cinnamon. Tannins are not fading at all, very young, very dry on the palate, chewy. Some tobacco leaves and dark chocolate as well. 30+ seconds finish. Still has decade to go. Love it! 13.5% alc. 2004 vintage

Another great btl of this wine & one of the better drinking 04 Bordeaux. This had notes of red berry, currant & plum fruits with cedar, leather, licorice & tobacco. Full bodied with good length.

This was showing well with lots of dark red fruits, forest floor, sweet spices & tobacco. I would give it a few more years in the cellar to shed some of its tannin structure.
