Pennsylvania Dutch

Penns Woods

Reserve Merlot 2019

Consistency is good - see my notes from earlier vintage. Approachable on opening. Floral on the nose. Dense spicy raspberry and a touch of leather on the palate. Starting to show some mineral on a moderate long finish. Tannins show at the finish. Perhaps the vines are getting more mature as it seems as if the profile is moving towards an old world style that may need cellaring in future vintages. — 2 years ago

Fainting Goat Red Blend 2019

Just as delicious as I remember it. Can distinctly taste the black cherry. It is delightful to taste the actual description of the wine. Definitely on the sweeter side. — 4 years ago

Lake Erie Noiret 2018

Had a glass at the winery and it tasted good enough to buy a bottle and bring home. So … at home , it pours a deep ruby color. Aroma of red raspberry and berries and a hint of smoke? . Cherries and raspberries in the middle with a dry pucker at the finish. — 4 years ago

This Pa brewery is rocking my world. Close my eyes and taste this, and I drift back to my time when I lived in Waterloo, Brussels. Label says 9.5% abv, but it’s tucked in nicely. Woody notes on the palate, with cardamom, cloves and licorice. Heart-warming as it slips down the hatch. Well done! — 5 years ago

@Ron R Cheers! Waterloo?...

Yes, @Dawn E. It’s where the final land battle took place. If you visit the museum there, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Napoleon won! Still, I enjoyed my time there... but the food and beers were to die for!

@Ron R Thanks! Great info 👍!

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Solid vintage year for the reserve cab. It’s one of the better balanced mid-Atlantic cabs you can find. It has the density and complexity of a top tier cab you’d expect from.more acclaimed Napa vineyards - but without the the ‘in your face’ tannins. Nice job Penn’s Woods! — 3 years ago

Glad you gave it a try! What vintage....was it a single-batch year? Love to compare to my cellar notes :)

Ron, it was 2014, bought it at the winery after a tasting a few years' back.

Wow, nice! Probably a 2011 or ‘12 vintage, eh? I am sure the vibrant acid was still fresh? What did you pair your bottle with, if you don’t mind me asking :)
