I've been driving through Croatia and Italy and tasting wines made from Plavic Mali or Primitivo grapes (which are considered to be the closest relatives of California zinfandel) looking for one that tastes like a California Zin. Itinera is the closest I have come. Smoke and walnuts on the nose. Ripe plums and black pepper on the front. Dark velvet tannins all the way back. Just a hint of astringency on the tail. Fucking gorgeous wine! This is Zin!
