Galena Cellars

Late Harvest Riesling

Split this bottle with Sarah halfway through our first week of solo parenting. It’s delicious. Beautiful straw color. Honey, honey suckle, candied lemon. Very sweet at first with a slightly sweet, tart finish. — a day ago

Galena Cellars

Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

I didn’t have high expectations for this wine. Mostly, it was in my cellar as part of a “can I drink all 50 states?” Instead I was pleasantly surprised. Is it fantastic? No. It’s not comparable to decent West Coast quality. But it’s also not bad... moderate acidity and ripe red fruits are pleasant with hints of tannins still present. Fairly dry but hidden by the muted tannins that remain. Back notes are phenolic and a little bit oaky. It is soft and lacks structure; definitely a drink-now wine. I would happily have another bottle. I’m surprised these are the varietals they chose to grow in Illinois, but it works... — 3 years ago
