Held up beautifully for 7+ years from harvest. Luscious cream texture and vanilla Brulé notes. Simple and subtle, even though the acidity has lost some vibrancy, still compatible with creamy chicken Alfredo! — a year ago
Peaches, slate, flowers, and honey. Lively. I think some of the negative reviews are due to drinking this too old. — 4 years ago
Fruity, slightly sweet and tropical with pineapple and mango notes. Crisp finish — 6 years ago
Great vintage that offered a blender’s bounty: ripe PM for acid, Florally/lemon Vidal, body and width from Chard, wine altitude from the Viognier. Stunning example again of NoVa elegance in motion! — 7 years ago

This evaluation and grade are relative to EAST coast 100% Merlot builds (for which there are MANY). In the series dubbed Outliner, each vintage is a chapter in the book of single varietal expression from the estate in Delaplane. This build takes on the RightBank MINDSET and delivers a sound argument. I call this a cube profile: equally wide and long as high. The acid is elegantly woven into the core structure and tannins and soft as velvety. They have succeeded in not copying a classic middle Lantic red fruit profile, rather this is opulent while be long restrained and modest. Strong enough to go against beef at the steakhouse, yet not a heavyweight puncher. 2 bottle remain in the cellar. The build quality is high, like a H&K 9mm! — 5 years ago
Starts with Cab Franc and offers a lovely blend of 4 red grapes! — 8 years ago

Wow -15 years of aging and this beauty has concentration that would make Washington State growers proud!! while it may be a couple years past its peak, there was still ample acidity to fight through the food we paired it with. But I’ve got to say, this is the first time a Virginia. Syrah has ever tasted like it’s from Washington State. Hats off to you, Jim Dolphin ;) — 7 months ago
Class! A 6.5yr old 375ml micro lot barrel from the esteemed vineyard near Winchester. Balanced elements of oak and cran-raspberry reduction. Just to touch a Pierazines leading to some green pepper & faint tar notes on the nose and finished palate. Nevertheless, elegant. — 3 years ago
Cab Franc-dominant blend, smoky and sweet. Soft tannins and berry notes. Quite lovely — 5 years ago
Inside Virginia, I will be very strict and stern with my ratings for varietals… The tale of the tape —>> to the scorecard our key indicators. this fella may be a little on the downward slope even after 5 1/2 years. I will remind myself that this was a cool vintage and the sugars We’re going to be in a tug-of-war with the beneficial acids. Purposeful for the meal we connected, this was not, however a purple bomb… Rather an accurate rifle shot at 100m. To his credit: the nose was nearly perfect in varietal representation. The pallet lost an edge as the mid palate dark chocolate body turn just a touch savory — 6 years ago
This Virginian petit Verdot with Melissa and John in Winchester Virginia. Solid petit Verdot, just an underlying touch of oak to round out this great grape. The winery In Delaplane Va 20144, ferments it’s grapes on natural yeast and does not add any additional yeast to the fermentation process. Great wine, beautiful drinking wine with our salads sourdough bread and sheep’s milk Gouda from Spain. Yum!!!! Good times. — 7 years ago
Fantastic and well balanced. Nose of cherries and blackberries with some baking spices. Almost a meaty taste on the palate to pair with those fruit and spice flavors too. Medium to full bodied. — 8 years ago

Such an impressive CF from likely a blend of two vineyard sites. Plenty of vibrancy and structure. 12 yrs of aging - could have gone a couple more… felt very much in the sweet spot — 6 months ago
