Listen. This is the kind of wine you expect a backwoods man to drink to accompany the wild game he just killed. The nose is underbrush, funk, mushrooms, and slightly rotting blackberries that just fell to the floor of the forrest....slight menthol quality as well. Mouthfeel is full, with black berry barnyard funk. At first, it had a spicy, hot finish... but after an hour, that steadily left the building. This is a delight of a wine. Complex and a pleasure all around. $14.... are u kidding?? — 6 years ago

Chocolate and vanilla all day. Shocker, lots of bourbon notes. It actually tastes like a slightly boozier version of Founders Backwoods Bastard, despite being a stout and not a scotch ale. Will let this one age another year or two before I have the next bottle. — 6 years ago
Not really a beer, not really wine, not really a spirit, but it sure does taste amazing. Huge alcohol, but very smooth and sipable. Lives up to the hype. I had with kbs, drakes jolly Rodger, backwoods bastard, and this was so much more complex. The issue for me is whether that complexity is something I want in a beer... — 10 years ago
Long forgotten in some backwoods Colorado wine shop's mini-fridge, and procured for about half of market rate after 15 years of bespoke provenance rolling through alpine summers and frigid winters. The fresh flavors long having evolved... euphemistically "matured" into deep nutty butterscotch and aged gouda and pear cider on the palate, and a deep gold on the eyes. In all honesty, this Phoenix like anomaly pairs extraordinarily with an aperitivi of parm and salumi after a day's cross country skiing in single digit mountain air. — 6 years ago
9.2 because it’s a youngin’ and needed time to stretch its legs and blow off some of that backwoods funk. I knew that had it lasted longer in the glass it would have sung all the merrier, but what notes it did sing were lovely indeed. Molasses, clove, plums, blackberries, allspice, and leather. — 8 years ago
