Black Label Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Coonawarra mint together with blackberry aromas. Cabernet tannins with a touch of bitterness - quite firm even though medium weight - tasting way younger than 13 years. The Wynns Black Label Cabernets have amazing longevity from their extensive resources of premium Coonawarra Cabernet fruit. One of the best value Cabs in the district The current vintage (2019) can be sourced for around $30. This 2009 will last until well into the 2030s. — 18 days ago

Cool story with the blend from Aussie + Napa. But it’s also super good. — 3 months ago

The Musician Coonwarra Cabernet-Shiraz Blend 2018

This wine must be the best value red in Coonawarra and also from the great 2018 vintage. Excellent value at $17.50 per bottle. Initial aromas of mint and blackberry. Excellent structure for such an inexpensive red. Bought this at the Cellar Door exactly a year ago when we were in Coonawarra doing vintage at Bellwether. Around 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Shiraz. Weirdly, another thing I liked was the really light empty glass bottle. — 3 months ago

Vs those crazy heavy wasteful wannabe cult wine bottles? Amen.00

I hate overly heavy bottles designed for novices to somehow think they are getting a quality wine based on all the weight of that extra glass. Something should be done about it. Environmentally unfriendly.

Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

A big full bodied red as you would expect given the style and the vintage. Plum, black currant, mocha, liquorice and the remnants of too much American oak in its youth but now settling down and coming together at 26 years of age. At least another 10 years future in it I would say. After a couple of hours in the decanter a very good Cabernet but not particularly identifiable as Coonawarra, although rereading the label the grapes were sourced from a few districts in South Australia. Very Penfolds in style. See 2 previous Delectable notes going back a few years. — 2 months ago

Very interesting to read your note as I have a last bottle of similar vintage hanging out in the cellar. Maybe better for me to trade/sell it for something I'll find more interest in.

I guess you have to like the style of big ripe fruit and lashings of American oak. It does settle down at this age though and I haven’t tried the recent vintages of 707 but I doubt the style has changed much if at all. I notice the current vintage of 2019 is selling for $650 on Penfolds Australian website so if you chose to sell your 1996 you should get good money for it.

Just checked, my bottle is 1999, but seems that your guidance will still hold true.

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Have you grabbed your $60 wine subscription sampler from Wine Selectors yet?

This pack includes 12 mini bottles of Aussie wine. Head to the blog to read all about it: travellingcorkscrew.com.au/blog/wine-subscription-sampler/

This Leconfield 2020 Cab Sauv came in the sample pack I was sent and it went down a treat! Definitely a nice taster.

In the glass it’s a juicy plum red colour. On the nose it’s rather earthy/forest like alongside having notes of blackberries, and vanilla oak. On the palate it’s fruity and fresh with plentiful black cherries and berry flavours. Nice full flavour without being overpowering. Balanced and delish!

All opinions are my own. Drink what you enjoy!
