Village Chardonnay 2016

Declassified grapes ;) Decidedly warm and generous, this 4+ yr old still has acid for our food regiment. Jim would admit the Village build is touch flabby, but his “3rd” Chardonnay is better (short and long term) than 98.5% of regional efforts. This guy had some vanilla, tropical citrus, dry marcona almonds, and velour texture. What it lacked in crisp concrete/stainless inspired acidity, it made up for in richness and in length. 90 points only because the vineyard designates need to score 3 to 4 points higher ;) — 4 months ago

Les Trois Chênes Touraine Sauvignon Blanc

“... aromas of ripe forelle pears, white peaches, and buckwheat honey along with fleeting suggestions of linden flowers, lavender, and freshly sliced poblano peppers as the nose evolves in the glass.

“On the palate, the wine is a rounder and fuller counterpoint to racy Sancerre, with briny, sea salt-seasoned flavors of fresh pineapple, Meyer lemon, and ruby grapefruit interwoven with firmly hewn salty silex minerality.” — Moore Brothers Wine Co., Brooklyn

Humility Merlot Blend 2010

So hard to believe that this was built on two year leaf grapes. Talk about a great rookie season! Mostly cab sauv , this did indeed punch far beyond it’s expected weight class. Complex yet fairly linear and sequential, this has the dna of the championship level big boy (glen manor/rdv/linden). While only a 375 mL bottle, it had aged remarkably well and would be worth another library investment if available ;) — a year ago

Vieilles Vignes Monthélie Pinot Noir 2016

First, use a large well-shaped glass (this limpid, soft yellow-gold Monthelie is Burgundy, after all, and another textbook example of how fine wine evolves over time after it’s poured). The nose unfolds like a peacock’s tail, with aromas of salted Seckel pears, ripe white peaches, Marcona almonds and lime blossoms moving in and out of the foreground, adding fleeting suggestions of lanolin, balsa, linden, and parsley as the nose develops over time. On the palate, the wine is impressively concentrated, at the same time delicately textured, with an overriding impression of freshness and self-confident elegance. Ample, focused flavors echoing and magnifying the beautiful stone fruit nose are seasoned with palpable briny minerality, and persist in the long, sweet-spice-and-white-pepper seasoned finish. Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc White Rhone Blend

2016 vintage. 30 Grenache Blanc 30 Clairette 30 Roussane 10 Bourboulenc. Blanched almond, beeswax, linden leaf, lemon pith, white grapefruit peel, lots of minerals. Acid definitely overrides any waxiness in texture. Good typicity. — 2 years ago
