We'll see if Delectable can figure out the name of this wine - I had to create it on CellarTracker. Made by a social interest cooperative in Costers del Segre, just west of Barcelona, this blend of Cava grapes (Chardonnay + Macabeo) is focused and beautiful. A swirling array of flavours, largely not fruit-based -- talcum, buttered popcorn, rubber, varnish, baked pear, cinnamon, mineral, celery -- yes, I swear, all in the same wine -- then scorching straight-line acidity on the back end of the palate that carries the wine through into a long, herbal-tinged finish. Best damned white wine I’ve had in a long time. A good balance of acid, minerality, and fruit with a surprisingly low 12.5% ABV. The vintage I had used differing varietals from those in the closest match I could find here: Mainly Xarel·lo (of Cava fame) with some Malvasia and Garnatxa Blanca. — 2 years ago

Cherries come through strongly. Not as tannic as I was expecting from the usual Cab—like a really good New World Pinot, actually. The pepper from the Syrah also comes through. — 2 years ago
