On first opening, bouquet of black cherry and blackberries, Big Red cinnamon gum, bell pepper, and smoky bowling alley; palate of black cherry and plum, char, and black tea with a medium-short finish. On the second day the candy and bell pepper smells taper, bowling alley becomes more of a whiff of pipe smoke, blackberry bramble emerges with spent firecrackers; on the palate the black pepper spice has some herbs de provence, black tea tannins are rounder and the cherry flavor more tart, a fuller body on the finish with notes of char, meat fats, and pepperoni spices. Was gonna go with 89 but it’s impressive once you decant for a day. — a year ago

Light smoke and balanced sweetness. Exotic spices, black pepper but very subtle . — 5 years ago
With its suave blend of rich dark fruit and energetic floral and spice qualities, this juicy Spanish red will pair well with a range of foods, especially grilled meats. It also drinks wonderfully by itself. Supple tannins and subtle grip keep the exuberant fruit in check. $15.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2018) — 5 years ago
