Bodegas Olivares

Hoya Finca Hoya de Santa Ana Monastrell Blend 2020

On first opening, bouquet of black cherry and blackberries, Big Red cinnamon gum, bell pepper, and smoky bowling alley; palate of black cherry and plum, char, and black tea with a medium-short finish. On the second day the candy and bell pepper smells taper, bowling alley becomes more of a whiff of pipe smoke, blackberry bramble emerges with spent firecrackers; on the palate the black pepper spice has some herbs de provence, black tea tannins are rounder and the cherry flavor more tart, a fuller body on the finish with notes of char, meat fats, and pepperoni spices. Was gonna go with 89 but it’s impressive once you decant for a day. — 2 years ago

Altos de la Hoya Ungrafted Old Vines Jumilla 2016

Delectable Wine
9.0

With its suave blend of rich dark fruit and energetic floral and spice qualities, this juicy Spanish red will pair well with a range of foods, especially grilled meats. It also drinks wonderfully by itself. Supple tannins and subtle grip keep the exuberant fruit in check. $15.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2018) — 5 years ago
