VERY affordable. Sancerre lovers (like me and Hemingway) are pretty happy with almost any sancerre. (Very small production area.)
So call this a "C" and try to find some of the B's and the (not-so-affordable) A's.

Ooooh.
This may be the best yet.
PS: do NOT buy red sancerre. Ever. — 10 years ago

We've found 3-7 "favorite" wineries in Northern California since we moved to CA four years ago. (yay retiree migrations!)
Two are only a mile apart - which is VERY convenient: Sonoma's Schug and Anaba.
We favor reds so I'll rarely weigh in on whites.
Schug's pinot noirs are lovely. The best of them is their 2011 Carneros Estate pinot. ($45 for club members.) But the 2013 Sonoma Coast pinot ($20 for club members) is delectable and wonderful with simple or complex Italian dinners.
Walter Schug's story is as remarkable as his wines.
