I thought this Carignan, Syrah, Grenache blend sounded like a promising crowd-pleaser. Well, it has a very strong... personality. Peppery, more tannic than I expected (but I don't know much about Carignan), and, oddly, a pervasive taste of salty bacon and smoked pork! I didn't pick up on those "ripe blackberry aromas" or any fruitiness, really. Still, a far more interesting wine than the average $6 bottle, but not one that I will buy again for sipping. Might be ok with some intensely marinated lamb. — 12 years ago
