Tobin James
Silver Reserve Paso Robles Lagrein
2011v. Dark, inky purple. Very aromatic: lot of dark, ripe fruit (plums, blackberry), some meaty/syrah like notes, and sweet oak barrel. Rich fruit on the palette at forst, but then that fades to a little peppery spice that finishes a tad on the savory side. Medium acidity and soft, integrated tannins. This wines got alcohol but it's well balanced. My first lagrein varietal. A good alt to syrah or Cali zin.13.6% ABV.

Apr 13th, 2015The inky black/garnet '11 Tobin James Lagrein 'Silver Reserve' is a new varietal for me. This Italian grape is quite Syrah-like with concentrated dried plum, blackberry, black tea and spice box aromas. Rich and chewy with a nice dollop of sweet oak on the mid-palate. Medium finish with lingering dark fruit on the back end. Looking forward to my next bottle.

Dec 29th, 2014Unique and excellent. Typically used as a blending grape, this Tobin James stands strong on its own. Rich, layered, pops of concentrated fruit and violet. Paired gorgeous with Steak Kabobs.
