Like a Chianti Classico standard but for the Valpolicella region. A blend of 70% corvina, 20% rondinella and a 10% mixture of molinara and other local varieties. Nose showing cherry, almond and liquorice. Not as full bodied as I was expecting. Medium weight. One of those wines where the nose is more interesting than the palate but does deliver to its price point of only $27. Short term drinking. Had another bottle on 11th November 2024 with similar notes. A good mid week Italian quaffer.

Empson. I believe this wine qualifies for "Superiore," but they had to forfeit that label since they went screwtop. They also farm organically. Come on, Speri family, show some respect for your country's traditions. 12.5% ABV. This is relatively weighty and dark, not super generous but very sturdy. From their vineyard near Verona, "La Roverina."

Black raspberries and some floral and herbal notes on the nose, medium acid and med/low tannins... enough to linger. Mostly fruits on the tongue with some lingering spices. Dangerously drinkable!

A little hot, some nice rounded and stewed fruit on the finish but not a stand out.
