Nice cherry and cherry blossom perfume, wet raspberry, fresh cranberry. Slight alcohol heat on the nose, not terribly distracting. Luckily out of split (375ml) so advanced aging is working for us. Another very nice afternoon Friday bottle (Pisoni) with a great friend.

This 2004 Santa Lucia highlands Pinot was on top of its game. The fruit was still so bright. No signs of age other than some subtle nuances. This was such a great surprise. From mostly Pisoni vineyard with some Gary's in there too. It's not even fair to compare this to other SLH branded bottlings

The benchmark for the AVA. Still maybe 2-3 years from peak.

After having their 12 a couple of months ago, I thought I’d try the 13.

It’s was good but still 4-5 years from shinning. The 12 is drinking beautifully now.

Nice darker fruits than the 12. However, at an hour opening up in the decanter, the lighter red fruits really shinned with some floral blueberries painting the edge of the palate. Nice round bright a acidity and good long, well balanced finish that will improve with more bottle age.

Photos of, Gary’s Vineyard, Santa Lucia vineyard, Winemakers; Jeff, Gary and Mark Pisoni and one of their oak fermenters.

Terrific new world Pinot. Just enough ripeness without going overboard. Way to go Gary!

Ripe dark round blackberries, raspberries, cherries, strawberries, light dry earth, fine but decent presence of chalk, soft light sweet spice, pink florals and light baking spice. Finishes just a little short. 375ml. Label is slightly out of focus to bring out the beautiful coast of Big Sur.

Thank you Pisoni crew. This is off the charts. Young and primary but super delicious. Epitome of Santa Lucia highlands

Balanced and focused Pinot Noir from the boys at Pisoni. Slightly gamey on the nose coupled with wet earth. I've made several trips to SLH and this speaks of the visual terroir. Crushed roses, strawberry and allspice on the palate. Tannins and acidity are excellent with wet earth and smoke closing out for a complex long finish.
