Jessup Cellars
Alexander Valley Zinfandel
Happy 4th of July! π₯ππ Sticking with a classic American wine today, Cali zin!
Just full throttle, flavor bomb Cali zin. The last few vintages have moved to Alexander Valley fruit, which has given these wines a bit more lift and acidity. Aromatically, it is bursting with the entire fruit spectrum, all of which is ripe and sweet. Oozes liqueur like notes, with mixed berry pie and candied black cherry licorice. On the palate, the fruit is red (tart rhubarb), blue and black (overripe blackberries) and covered in milk chocolate, sandalwood, and Mexican vanilla. While this is high octane (and it shows), the acidity here prevents from this from being too flabby (which has happened in previous vintages before the move to Alexander Valley).
Hard for me to score this knowing the memories we have tied to Jessup being one of the first wineries we visited as well as one of our first wine clubs to join all those years ago, but also knowing this style of wine isnβt one we drink much of anymore. For those who enjoy unabashed, fruit forward, fruit bombs in their zins, this is a wonderful example.
