Domaine de la Terre Rouge
Sierra Foothills Mourvèdre
Since the Bandol was corked, and we had braised lamb shanks, we decided to stay on-theme and open a well-aged Sierra Foothills Mourvèdre. Nose is earthy and quite ripe, even with a slight pruney note, on top of the ripe dark berry fruit. Palate is dense and quite ripe. There’s a tad of noticeable residual sugar that detracts a little, but otherwise it’s pretty satisfying. Good acids and there’s still a bit of tannin left. Nice!

Feb 7th, 2022Absolutely love this winery. Lots of acidity and real easy and fun to pair with a range of different food.

Aug 15th, 2016Brick colored edges; very fine, soft tannins; fruit is abundant like cherry, fig, and plum, but tertiary flavors have emerged too: mushroom, sage, spice. Acidity is still alive...Day 2: really singing. More a soft mint, strawberry profile. Worth an extra point.

Sep 2nd, 2018Smooth spicy and paired well with lamb - nose was outstanding and the finish lingered - dark plum, saddle leather and blackberries - a part of the reserve pairing at Atera NYC
