Domaine de la Majone
Picpoul de Pinet
Lemon yellow in colour. Notes of citrus (lemon and lime) and honeysuckle. Curiously a note of pineapple. This is the ultimate wine to accompany Oysters. We shared 6 freshly shucked Coffin Bay Oysters (South Australia). Muted acid at 6 years but it remains crisp and would be a good match with all seafood. Languedoc has some hidden gems, both red and white. Certainly worth having a few bottles of this in the cellar at all times. Also good value.

Jan 11th, 2024Picpoul is reputedly the best match with oysters. Couldn’t get oysters on Thursday night but we had it anyway. I had tried this Languedoc white before but this had a more luscious fulsome palate than I recall. Aromatic Notes of honeysuckle, beeswax and pear. The palate shows pear, tropical fruit and a luscious mouth feel. Not as acidic as I was expecting. Great value. Will buy again.

Jun 30th, 2022As the weather warms, my thoughts turn to Picpoul. Green tasting with citrus, herbal and mineral notes. The acid lives up to its reputation, “Lip Stinger”. Yesterday, I drank it with sardines, so good. Today, I’m picking up some oysters and will finish off the bottle.

Strongly aromatic - typical of many Mediterranean whites from warm climates. On the palate lemon pith with a waxy texture yet maintaining its refreshing acidity. Not particularly long but a lovely short term drink for summer from the Languedoc and great QPR at $24. Screw cap. Apparently Picpoul is known as the perfect oyster wine. The vineyards are down on the sandy coastal soils in view of the oyster leases.

Dec 21st, 2019A dry aromatic white from Languedoc. Mid Lemon in colour with a touch of brass. Initial aromas of Pear which developed into Fruit Salad with airing. The typical textural waxy fruity feel on the palate of many Mediterranean whites yet finishing dry. A delicious wine which would be a great accompaniment to shellfish/oysters.
