Hermitage Syrah 2014

A lovely mid-weight, herbal, meaty and spicy little number. The jovial side of Hermitage if ever there was one - 2014 from magnum. — 5 years ago

Charles Heidsieck

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

12 hours of free-flowing Charles Heidsieck Champagne - heck yes 🙌

Mr Spittoon and I splurged on our recent trip to Thailand. Instead of buying Christmas presents and after saving like crazy we decided to put our money towards business class flights on Singapore Airlines ✈️

The trip from Melbourne to Thailand consists of a 7hour + 2 hour flight, with a stopover in Singapore.

Half of the decision to fly Singapore Air may have been to do with the Charles Heidsieck champagne onboard and boy it didn’t disappoint! It’s also worth noting that unlike the Melbourne and the Bangkok SG lounges that the lounge in Singapore also has help-yourself CH champagne 🍾

So it’s safe to say, I got to know old mate Charles intimately 😜 This is one sophisticated champagne with a wonderful depth of flavour that gives your taste buds plenty of entertainment, even at high altitude. It’s silky in the mouth with aromas and flavours of things like toasted brioche, florals, peaches and caramelised nuts 🤤

At $97 a bottle from Dan Murphy’s, it’s safe to say between Mr Spittoon and myself we definitely got our money’s worth 😉

Definitely one of the best NVs going around IMO.

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Riserva Rancia Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Color of saturated ruby, fading away around the rim. Nose of dark fruits like cherry jam, and crayon. A big dull so I decided to let her breathe for a while. After ~ 10 minutes, nose shows some more strawberries, tobacco leaves, some balsamic vinegar, but still quite reserved. Taste of good quality acidity and tannins, black tea, cherry jam, more tea like flavors, peppery and zesty. Quite classical Chianti Classico Riserva. Aftertaste is an extension of taste, medium long and mellow tannins. Enjoy her now. The nose is a bit dull and that is the only complaint, as the wine is pure and tasty. — 5 years ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

For the money, this is my favourite Barbaresco as it always delivers @ a great price and the latest 2015 doesn’t disappoint either at £30 😉 Drink well young as these do but will get better 👍 A vintage not to miss!

Clos Marsalette

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2014

This is 70% Sauv Blanc but I found the 30% Semillon quite pronounced. Stone fruits, sea salt, parsley, and wax. — 5 years ago

Hit or miss with Pax wines for me so far but this one is a big win! Absolutely delicious on PnP. Translucent ruby in the glass, there is such purity here. Lovely. — 5 years ago

@Severn Goodwin Yes, and allocations come and go quickly. If they ship to Mass., I’ll let you know when they get more Veuve Clemence. This is one you want along with their SC. Their Grand Cru is good but, after you have their VC, hard to go back. If they don’t ship to Mass., I’ll send a bottle to see if you want more.

Château Carbonnieux

Grand Cru Classé de Graves Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Very nice young Bordeaux, powerful nose with dark fruit, Wood, metal and almost blue cheese funk. Dark red in colour with a strong palate; a little disjointed to start with but it develops nicely after a couple of hours and has nice fruit with liquorice and oak. Will definitely smooth out and the price point means some low risk experimentation. — 5 years ago
