This Week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous

Welcome to this week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous! Each week we compile a list of wines from the Vinous database that you need to add to your wine wish list. With all the various regions, producers, and grapes, no week will be the same! All of the wines listed in this feature are available for purchase on Banquet . This week's must-try wines are from Antonio Galloni’s article, Piedmont Within Reach . Enjoy an excerpt from this article and reviews below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Piedmont is full of excitement these days, more than I have ever seen in 25 years of visiting the region. The rapid escalation of prices and dwindling availability of the region’s top wines can be discouraging, but it needn’t be, as Piedmont has so much to offer beyond the most highly coveted Barolos and Barbarescos. This report covers a wide range of wines that deliver plenty of Piedmont soul at prices that are accessible.” --Antonio Galloni, Piedmont Within Reach, December 2022 1. 2021 Barale Fratelli Dolcetto d'Alba Le Rose 2. 2021 Fratelli Alessandria Pelaverga Speziale 3. 2021 G.B. Trediberri

Trediberri Barbera d'Alba 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2021 Barbera d'Alba is an explosion of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and mocha. A healthy dollop of whole clusters (30%) adds an element of savoriness that takes a little getting used to, as it is not often seen in Barbera. Vinification and aging in cement yields a juicy Barbera in which the fruit is front and center. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2022)

Fratelli Alessandria

Speziale Verduno Pelaverga 2021

Delectable Wine
8.8

The 2021 Pelaverga Speziale is pretty, floral and aromatic, with a bit more fruit and fewer of the savory notes that are often present here. This light-bodied, ethereal red is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next few years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2022)

Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is fabulous. Crushed berries, spice, mint, dried rose petal and licorice are beautifully delineated. The purity of the flavors is remarkable. Vineyard sites are Berri (35%), plus non-estate vineyards in Levice, Alta Langa (60% - leased) and Monticello d'Alba, Roero (5% - purchased fruit). The 2021 was vinified and aged entirely in cement, and yet it has plenty of structure. It is a terrific choice for readers on a budget, or even readers not on a budget! Fratelli Barale

Le Rose Dolcetto d'Alba 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2021 Dolcetto d'Alba Le Rose is fresh, delicate and fragrant, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Bright red/purplish fruit, spice and sweet floral notes are nicely pushed forward in this mid-weight, super-classic Dolcetto. A brief stay in oak adds structure. G.D. Vajra

Barbera d'Alba 2021

Delectable Wine
8.9

the 2021 Barbera d'Alba is soft, fruity and very easy to like. Crushed rose petal, sweet red berries, cinnamon, orange peel and mint are all very nicely lifted. This understated, supple Barbera is a winner. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2022)

Comm. G.B. Burlotto

Verduno Pelaverga 2021

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2021 Pelaverga Verduno is classy and elegant to the core. Crushed red berry fruit, sweet floral notes and a kick of citrus are all laced together. Burlotto's silky, polished Pelaverga is about as good as it gets for this quirky variety. Aging in steel helped preserve quite a bit of freshness. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2022)
